![]() Gardening For Wildlife Award Scheme Have you thought about entering your garden for an award through your local council and Kent Wildlife Trust. The Romney Marsh Countryside Project and the White Cliffs Countryside Project have joined forces with Shepway District Council and will be helping anyone who requires more information on this exciting scheme. With over two million acres of garden in Britain, their potential contribution to wildlife conservation is enormous. Kent Wildlife Trust (KWT) has set up a county gardening awards scheme within Kent in partnership with Kent County Council (KCC) and a range of district and borough councils. The scheme aims to encourage people to garden with the needs of wildlife in mind. It provides advice on a range of ideas to attract wildlife into gardens and rewards individuals and groups that have wildlife friendly gardens and practice environmentally friendly techniques in gardening. Whilst not a competition, there will be presentation ceremonies during the autumn. Shepway District Council has teamed up with the Romney Marsh Countryside Project and the White Cliffs Countryside Project0 to help you receive the right information to encourage wildlife within your garden. HOW DO I GET INVOLVED? From the first day of spring onwards, gardeners can request a copy of the free information pack from Sarah Williams, Shepway District Council, Policy and Performance Review, Shepway District Council, Civic Centre, Castle Hill Avenue, Folkestone, Kent. CT20 2QY. Tel 01303 852420. (An answerphone operates during busy periods – please leave your details and a pack will be sent to you). Please complete and return the self assessment form to the Kent Wildlife Trust. The closing date is the 31 May 2003. Entries will be considered by a team from Kent Wildlife Trust in the summer, which should include a garden visit. The final results are passed to the council to plan any presentation in the early autumn. Entries are considered for gold, silver, bronze or commended awards. There should be plenty of packs available, but please bear in mind that these will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. |
