Pond Creation Ponds are important wildlife habitats, that support a variety of wetland plants and animals, including species like Great-crested Newt and Medicinal Leech on the Romney Marsh. The Romney Marsh Countryside Project has created just over 35 ponds on the Romney Marsh in the last four years up to spring 2003 through the Kent Ponds Project and through a partnership with English Nature. The Kent Ponds Project was a co-operative approach coordinated by Kent County Council, with the Environment Agency and English Nature as funding partners. This project was supported by the European Regional development Fund (ERDF) and takes a lead from the Kent Biodiversity Action Plan.
