Come
and help conserve the local environment. Working as a conservation volunteer
takes you to areas of the Romney Marsh you may not have visited before
where you will learn about the special wildlife we are working hard to
protect. Our conservation tasks are popular events and volunteers find
them rewarding and a great way to keep fit.
Most of the conservation work carried out by
the Romney Marsh Countryside Project involves volunteers. The project
organises about 25 tasks a year and these cover activities ranging from
hedge planting near Lydd, scrub clearance near Camber, leech surveying
at Appledore or pond digging. All volunteer days are led by an experienced
leader who will introduce you to the group and inform you about the place
you are working and the work you will be doing. The volunteers are a friendly
bunch and new volunteers are always welcome.
To join in you can turn up at one of the pick
up points shown below, or just arrive on site. There is no need to book
a place. You will be taken back to the pick up point at the end of the
day or, if you came under your own steam you may leave when you wish.
There is no pressure to stay all day, any gift of your time is valuable.
Whatever the task, we always provide plenty
of tea and cakes (usually of the Mr. Kipling variety). We also provide
all the tools and gloves. All you need to bring is a packed lunch, some
old clothes and boots or wellies if required.
