Introduction > Wildlife Ponds > Planting for Insects and Drought > Food and Shelter > Garden Composting >

Gardens are for people, but they can also be wildlife havens.Gardens are estimates to account for 12% of Britain’s cultivated land. This is larger in size than all the British nature reserves put together. The threat to our wild places is ever increasing so everyone who enjoys a garden can make a difference to our local wildlife.

The Romney Marsh Countryside Project has put together some information to help you along if you are deciding to do your bit for wildlife. There are so many different ways in which gardens can be improved for the benefit of wildlife that we couldn’t possibly cover them all. However on the following pages you’ll find advice on a variety of subjects from creating ponds to composting.

Every garden is different. You might want to encourage bumble bees, create an amphibian corner or possible even a butterfly bed – there are no rules to the creating a wildlife garden – just enjoy it as much as the wildlife does.
