Romney Marsh Countryside Partnership

Volunteering

How do I become a volunteer?

If you would like to start volunteering with us, please do get in touch to see what opportunities are coming up soon.

Contact us by email: RMCP@dover.gov.uk or call: 01304 241806.

Our volunteering tasks predominantly take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as well as on one Sunday a month. However we do often have other opportunities that come up on other days of the week. So if these days don’t suit your schedule, do get in touch with us anyway to find out more.

What do I need to bring with me?

We provide all the tools, training and safety equipment you will need (including gloves). All you need to bring is some water to drink, a flask of something warm for the tea break and a packed lunch. Please wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting muddy, and sturdy boots or safety shoes with good grip (preferably those that support your ankle). If it is likely to rain please bring along waterproofs.

Why volunteer?

  • Explore areas of the Romney Marsh you may not have visited before
  • Learn about the special wildlife we are working hard to protect
  • It is a great way to keep fit without paying a gym membership
  • Meet like-minded individuals
  • Learn new skills, such as wildlife identification
  • To give something back to your local community

What is involved?

Most of the conservation work carried out by the Romney Marsh Countryside Partnership involves volunteers. The project organises about 40 tasks a year and these cover activities ranging from hedgelaying on the Romney Warren, boardwalk maintenance at Dungeness to invasive species removal on Greatstone Dunes. If you have a particular group of species you are interested in, do let us know as we are always keen to survey the wildlife on the sites we manage.

All volunteer days are led by an experienced leader who will introduce you to the group and inform you about the place you are working and the work you will be doing. The volunteers are a friendly bunch and new volunteers are always welcome. No prior experience is necessary, the leader will train you in all you need to know at the start of each volunteer task day.
